I'm In Love, I'm In Love And I Don't Care Who Knows It!

by Ajax 19. February 2009 12:50

I'm not the kind to go around letting people in on my personal life, but usually I don't have a personal life. How much privacy can I really have when I don't wear clothes? It's tough. Anyway, last week, I met someone special. Here's our story.

On Tuesday afternoon, we went back to a place I remembered. I went for a car ride with Shane for quite a while -- longer than normal car rides -- and we ended up back at the kennel I was adopted at. You might think that I would have been nervous they were taking me back, but I wasn't at all. In fact, I was very excited to hear familiar sounds and see Marilyn, who took care of me while I was staying there before. When we got there, Angela my dog walker was also there. I couldn't figure out what we were doing, but me and another dog I know who Angela babysits, Watson, kept waiting with Shane while Angela would walk back to the kennel and come out every few minutes with another greyhound that I hadn't met before. I was very honored that they were introducing all of these dogs to me. I must have been extra good that day. Each time they would take the other greyhound away, I would just look at where the dog went behind the fence and bark and whine. I think they knew to keep bringing me more to play with.

The last one, though... She was special. The second I saw her I got so excited that I jumped off the ground. She was a light brown color and very playful. She was young, about two years old, and kind of walked with a limp because she got hurt racing, but most of us do. We don't really judge on walking ability. It's all personality... Well, personality and butt smelling. We hung out for ten or fifteen minutes while the people talked. Pretty soon, I heard someone say "She's the one," and all of the sudden Shane loaded me back into my car and we drove home! I didn't understand. I was sad that they took me away from the pretty girl, so I barked and whined on the whole 40 minute ride home.

The next day, Shane and Cassandra woke me up SUPER early. I mean 3 AM early! They walked me and then got ready and left really early. They said something about "vacation." It was certainly out of the ordinary, but later on the same morning, Angela came by and instead of walking, I got to ride in her car back to her house. When I walked in, I couldn't believe my eyes... It was the girl greyhound I met the day before! Her name, I found out, was Raynah. I was so happy I was jumping and running all over the place while wagging my tail and smiling. Shane and Cassandra were gone for a few days, but I didn't even mind because I was getting to know my new friend. She was new to home-life, so I taught her a few things: like how comfortable a couch is, how to get the people to scratch you, how to use stairs, and when dinner time was. We got to know each other, and as you can see below, we got pretty close... Yeah, I had a good week.

Rapid Fire Day

by Ajax 19. February 2009 12:44

As you know, I hadn't posted anything here for over two weeks before today so I'm doing rapid fire posts to make up for it. As such, here are two things I've been storing and waiting to write about, when not asleep in bed... or on the couch... or on the people bed... or in my crate... or in the back of the car... or... well, you get it. I sleep a lot.

My Friend Mya

Shane's friends Ben & Esther come over every once in a while and bring their daughter Mya, who really likes me. I don't get a chance to play with many kids, so it's kind of fun. We got a couple of pictures when they were here in early February.

My Apparent Drug Addiction

I don't have a problem. I don't know what you're talking about.

by Ajax 19. February 2009 12:41

Here's an old video I dug up of me and my friend Brutus playing back in October while Shane's family was staying at my house.

More New Collars

by Ajax 19. February 2009 12:28

As you have probably read by now, Cassandra is on a kick of making me and my friends new collars now. Here are the latest for those of you who hadn't seen them yet. The fire one is my favorite so far.

Car Riding 101

by Ajax 19. February 2009 11:55

Here's a little lesson for other dogs or people who may not be well versed at riding in the car. It's by no means a full comprehensive guide, but just a few tips to make your experience a little better. As you may know, I am now a pro at riding in the car, and my people know this. I am offered a car ride frequently simply to showcase my skills.

Ajax's Tips To Create The Best Car Ride Possible

  1. Lesson one. The car is essentially a moving dog house. Treat it as such. Be sure to claim the back part as your own. It contains a full bed to lay down on, and as such, it is the more desireable location. Let the humans sit up front.
  2. Don't waste your energy up front. You may or may not have a long way to go. Make sure that if there's something stinky outside later on in the trip, you have enough stamina to stand up and investigate. Don't be overly aggressive with the things you've already seen / heard / smelled before. Besides, who doesn't like to lie down and relax. Be comfortable!
  3. Sticking your nose on the window usually makes it open. This is especially true if you can work up a little bit of a wet residue on the window.
  4. If your people leave you in the car, bark for a while to make sure they know you're still there.
  5. Stick your head out the window when possible. If snowing, you get bonus piles of snow on your nose that make you look cute.
  6. Make sure you make the most of the people's close proximity to you. We all know that the people don't hang out in the crate with you at home. When you're in the moving crate (car), remember that they're stuck in there with you until it stops moving. Be sure to make sure they remember to pet you. The headrest in the middle of their seats is a good place to position yourself for easy petting access. Even better -- if they already have an arm there, use it! It can be a headrest:,
or even just a place to prop yourself up so you can look happily out the window:
    .
  7. When you get back home, make sure they know if you weren't ready to be home yet by staying lying in the back of the car even if they tell you it is time to go inside. If they ask five or six times, you've made your point and then can go inside.

If you have any questions, or need clarifications, email me. I'm a pro.

Holy Crap, I'm Wearing Shoes!

by Ajax 19. February 2009 11:22

I understand that you're not used to a dog wearing shoes. There are logical reasons. Let's count.

  1. I look awesome
  2. The snow I have to walk on every day is very cold and my patience is growing thin.
  3. I have a bunch of new collars, why not wear shoes too?
  4. It makes my feet look bigger. That would imply a lot, you know, if you couldn't already see everything I have to offer.
  5. Officially 25% classier than bare feet.
  6. More efficient butt kicking.
